Information for Individuals

The Australian Government is doing all it can to prevent a terrorist attack in Australia. Visit ‘What Governments are Doing’ to see how governments are working to fight terrorism and increase the security of all Australians.

The Community Information and Advice section of this website includes information on how you can help protect Australia and valuable advice to help you prepare for an emergency.

You may have seen advertising for the National Security Hotline in your local media. The National Security Public Information Campaign continues to remind Australians to remain vigilant and to report possible signs of terrorism to authorities via the Hotline.

In order to inform national security preparation and planning, the National Counter-Terrorism Alert System was established. The current level of alert is MEDIUM.

The Australian Government’s Disaster Assist website has been set up by the Australian Government to give individuals and families information about recovery assistance and support that the Australian Government has provided to individuals, families and communities following both offshore and onshore disasters.

For those travelling overseas, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Smartraveller site provides information and advice about the travel environment in overseas countries.
