Help Page

Simple search:
This function is on the right-hand side of the "Events By" views. Simply type your keyword in the box and press "Search". It is not case-sensitive. You can use a comma as a separator, ie., 'Grafton floods' is a phrase, but 'Grafton, floods' is will search for 'Grafton' as well as 'floods'. 'Grafton and Floods' will return the same result as using a comma, but 'or' and 'not' are not functions. Typing in "1974" will not give you all events from 1974 but all instances of the number in the database. This is a full-text search. Typing in "golf balls" for instance will typically produce results where hailstones are described in the Event Description in terms of golf balls.

Advanced Search:
Select a "Search Criteria" from the drop-down list. You will then need to fill in the next field from the drop-down list. Depending on your selection, it will be Keyword(s), Zone, or a range. Then set "Date Range". Keywords can be separated by a comma. When all fields are filled, press "Search".

Reports:
Select disaster category from the "Select Category" drop-down list. Then select from the "Loss Structure" drop-down list to define the search limits. Then select from "Location" drop-down lists. Zone and Regions fields must both be filled in. If the Region field is blank you may need to move to another Zone and back to reset the box. Then set the "Date Range". Press "Search. The Results will be displayed as events headings with results requested and totals on a new page which you can print using the "Print" button on your browser. Note: As past events data is still being added, some Report Queries may not produce a valid result

Regions
Regions are determined by a grid reference taken from the map shown in Resources. Region are named from a prominent town or feature within the region. Locations within the region are pinpointed by the Map field, which is currently blank in the case of most of the data although specific locations are usually provided in the Events Description.
