International Trade law
The Australian Government Attorney-General's Department works closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in negotiating international trade agreements. The Department has a particular interest in areas such as dispute settlement, copyright, investment, legal services, e-commerce, transparency and the general drafting of these agreements.
International trade agreements are negotiated at any one of the following three levels:
- Multilateral level, under the umbrella of the World Trade Organisation
- Regional level, such as Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and
- Bilateral level, such as free trade and investment agreements with key trading partners.
