Trucks and vehicles

Terrorists continue to use vehicles in attacks against crowds with devastating impact. This type of attack can be carried out with little planning and no warning.

What can I do?

If you work in the trucking or transport industries, we recommend you put security in place to protect the industry and your business.

Security measures include:

  • lock vehicles at all times and keep your keys safe
  • know where your vehicle is and know who has access
  • know your load
    • is it secure or contains something terrorists could use
    • check your load regularly
  • don’t pick up hitchhikers
  • have a security plan should something happen
  • confirm your safety and location through a reporting system during or on completion of a job.

Keep your vehicles safe

Reduce the chances of your vehicles being used by terrorists.

Do this by:

  • being aware of your surroundings
  • making security a normal part of conversation
  • running background checks on drivers
  • teaching new drivers how to operate the vehicle
  • keep vehicles secure.

Report suspicious behaviour

Report any unusual behaviour as soon as possible.

Suspicious behaviour can be:

  • unusual filming or photography of official buildings or other critical infrastructure
  • people loitering near depots
  • people driving dangerously
  • vehicles parking close to somewhere that could be a target
  • vehicles returning for no reason, especially somewhere that will attract crowds.
