State sponsors of terrorism

Under the Criminal Code, a state sponsor of terrorism is a foreign state entity specified by regulations made by the Governor-General. Only the Australian Government can specify (list) a state sponsor of terrorism through regulations.

By listing state sponsors of terrorism, the Australian Government can respond to risks posed by state-sponsored terrorism and inform the public of the risks to harm to Australians or Australian interests that foreign state entities pose.
